These Terms of Service govern your use of this website and your participation in the programmes, events, contests and activities offered by Bluffdale ACM Chapter. By visiting this website, sending a message through the contact form, registering for a chapter programme or otherwise taking part, you agree to be bound by these terms. If you do not agree with any part of these terms, please do not use the website or take part in the programmes.
These terms apply alongside any additional rules published for a specific programme, such as contest rules, workshop safety notes or the code of conduct. Where a specific rule conflicts with these terms, the specific rule governs for that programme.
Bluffdale ACM Chapter is a community chapter of the computing society, located at 873 W Ellsworth St, Bluffdale - 84065-1664, United States (US). The chapter organises lectures, student programming contests, systems integration programmes, research reading groups, open source mentoring and community workshops. The chapter is a volunteer run organisation. It is not a commercial software vendor and it does not provide professional engineering services to the public. The programmes described on this website are educational and community activities.
You may use this website if you are able to form a binding agreement with the chapter and are not barred from doing so under applicable law. Some programmes have additional eligibility rules. Student contests are open to enrolled secondary school and college students, with separate divisions where numbers make that useful. Systems integration teams are generally open to members who have attended at least one introductory session, because the work requires a basic shared vocabulary.
Where a participant is a child under the age of majority, a parent or guardian must review these terms and take responsibility for the child participation. By registering a child, the parent or guardian confirms that they have read these terms and that they consent to the child taking part.
You may read the pages of this website, print or save a copy for your own reference, and link to the public pages from your own website or teaching material. You may quote short passages with clear attribution to Bluffdale ACM Chapter, provided that the quotation is accurate and is not presented in a way that suggests the chapter endorses your own product, service or opinion.
Educational use is welcome. If you are a teacher who would like to use chapter lecture notes or contest problems in a class, you may do so, and the chapter appreciates a short note telling us how the material was used so that we can improve it.
You agree not to do any of the following in connection with this website or chapter programmes.
The chapter may investigate suspected breaches and may report unlawful conduct to the appropriate authorities.
Some chapter programmes require registration. When you register, you agree to provide accurate and current information and to update it if it changes. You are responsible for the information you submit and for any activity carried out using the details you provide.
Where a programme issues a participant identifier or a team name, you agree not to choose a name that is offensive, misleading or infringes the rights of another person. The chapter reserves the right to change or revoke an identifier that breaches this rule.
The chapter publishes a schedule of lectures, contests, reading groups and workshops, and it makes reasonable efforts to deliver each programme as described. Dates, rooms and speakers may change for reasons outside the chapter control, including weather, illness or the availability of a venue. When a change is significant, the chapter will notify registered participants using the contact details they provided.
Registration for a programme does not guarantee a place unless the chapter confirms it. Where demand exceeds capacity, the chapter may maintain a waiting list and may give priority to members and to people who have not previously attended.
Contest participation is subject to the published contest rules in addition to these terms. By entering a contest, you agree to solve problems honestly and without assistance from unauthorised people or tools. Collaboration between teams during a contest is not permitted unless the rules for that contest say otherwise. The use of prewritten solution code from external sources is not permitted unless the problem statement expressly allows it.
The decisions of the judges on scoring, ranking and eligibility are final. The chapter may disqualify a team that breaches the rules, and it may withhold a prize where a breach is established. Contest problems and official solutions become part of the chapter archive and may be published after the event.
Community workshops may include the use of chapter loaner laptops and other equipment. You agree to use loaner equipment carefully, to follow any instructions given by the workshop leader, and to return the equipment in the condition in which you received it subject to reasonable wear. You agree to report any damage or loss promptly so that the chapter can repair or replace the item.
You are responsible for your own personal belongings at any chapter event. The chapter is not responsible for property that is lost, stolen or damaged at a venue, although it will make reasonable efforts to help recover it.
Systems integration programmes are delivered by member teams to partner organisations. The chapter describes the nature and scope of each engagement in a written statement before work begins, and the partner is asked to acknowledge that statement. Integration work is delivered on a best efforts basis by volunteers, and the chapter does not provide a commercial warranty for any system it builds.
Members who take part in an integration team agree to follow the integration handbook, to document their decisions and to respect the confidentiality of any partner information they encounter. Partner data must never be copied to personal devices or used for any purpose outside the agreed engagement.
Mentoring and reading groups are voluntary educational activities. Mentors offer guidance in good faith, but they do not guarantee any particular learning outcome, employment result or acceptance of a contribution to an open source project. Mentees agree to communicate respectfully, to be prepared for scheduled sessions and to give reasonable notice when they cannot attend.
Both mentors and mentees agree to keep the content of private mentoring conversations confidential, except where disclosure is required for safety or legal reasons. Reading group notes that are shared within a group may be published in the chapter archive as described in the contributions section below.
The text, layout, graphics and code of this website are owned by Bluffdale ACM Chapter or used with permission, and they are protected by applicable intellectual property law. The chapter name and any associated marks may not be used in a way that suggests sponsorship or endorsement without written permission.
Nothing in these terms transfers ownership of chapter intellectual property to you. Your permitted use of the website is limited to the rights expressly granted in these terms. Contest problems, lecture notes and workshop handouts may carry their own licence terms, which are stated with the material where they differ from these terms.
When you submit material to the chapter, such as a contest problem, a reading group summary, a workshop handout or a code contribution, you confirm that you have the right to share it and that it does not infringe the rights of any third party. You grant the chapter a non exclusive right to publish, adapt and distribute the material for educational and community purposes.
You retain ownership of your contribution and may use it elsewhere. The chapter will attribute contributions where you ask us to do so. Contributions that are unsuitable, unlawful or inconsistent with the code of conduct may be declined or removed at the discretion of the chapter.

A person who experiences or witnesses conduct that breaches this section should report it to a committee member or by email to desk@bluffdaleacm.hair. Reports will be handled discreetly, and the chapter may take any action it considers appropriate, including removing a person from a programme or declining future participation.
